Solve : HD Won't run, recovery help!? |
|
Answer» The computer will not start up. TOOK HD out and hooked up to external case and it does not get recognized on the other computer. Seems it is not running. Looking for ways to recover information off it. Post your system & EXPLAIN what its not doing.POWER up & what does it do?1) Put HD in heavy plastic zip lock bag (like a freezer bag). 1) Put HD in heavy plastic zip lock bag (like a freezer bag). Can you explain, why ? This is the first time, I read something like this. An HD in Freezer? Tried that. No luck. Took to the pros to try a data recovery. they said 60% chance they could pull files off. THANKS for the suggestions. Quote from: burned703 on May 25, 2009, 03:34:13 AM Not really sure, but it works. I believe it has something to do with the internal components contracting and expanding. http://geeksaresexy.blogspot.com/2006/01/freeze-your-hard-drive-to-recover-data.htmlIt has worked for me in the past...however i would put the success rate on how MANY times i have done it at about 8% or less....and a few of those were only partial recoveries before the drive died completely. If you have tried the freezer idea and are out of other ideas you can try this....only as a last resort. With the power off and your drive set as a slave rap it 2 or 3 times firmly on the table and than power it up as fast as you can. The 2 main reasons these ideas work on a bad drive is that the spindle is locked up so the cold shrinks it enough for the motor to start it spinning again. The other idea of rapping helps is because the cold didn't shrink the spindle enough to get it spinning. The rapping can break it free and let the motor get the platters moving. Both of these ideas are long shots at best. And if your drive spins up get all your data off of it in one shot. Don't think you can COUNT on the drive to come up again. I tried the freezer method, no go. It is an Emachines T6520 running WXP. http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/emachines-t6520-media-center/4507-3118_7-31466280.html I took to Geek Sq. and they tried to get data off but were unsuccessful. As far as I know the only option I have is a data recovery that costs $300. Unless anyone has some ideas how to do it myself. |
