Solve : Hdd full?

Answer»

Hey guy (laides)

I have an issue with my pc, the drive is partitioned into 2,
c: drive,
d: my recovery drive,

my D drive is already full, i want to know how i can fix this issue.....i have a 500 g external harddrive with me, i do know there is a solution to this where i can use my external harddrive......please help.

thanks guys! If d: is a recovery drive how is it accumulating files? What do you put there?
And assuming it's just data, move what you want to the external drive. Am I missing something here?Is this a desktop or laptop?

What is the total capacity of each logical drive, "C:" and "D:"?

If "D:" is a recovery partition of 6 GigaBytes or so, then you shouldn't be dumping anything to it. If you're running "Backup" SOFTWARE, verify the logical drive it's dumping the backups to.It is a PC.

C is my primary and D is my secondary.....Quote from: LeoITT on September 25, 2009, 09:55:16 AM

It is a PC.

C is my primary and D is my secondary.....

So it's a "desktop" ?

How large are the "C:" and "D:" logical drives (what is total capacity of each) ? my pc C: drive is 156 gb free of 225 gb's and my Recovery D: drive is 595 mb of 7.67 GB

I have an external HDD with 500 gb of free space and i dont know how transfer the files on my D drive to my external (well call it drive E:) or if there is a better solution, im trying to install a program and since the memory is full i cannot even boot it to save on my external drive (drive E:)Don't mess with the D: drive!
This is an order! You must obey! dahlarbear - what's the difference if it's a desktop or a laptop?

LeoITT - please answer the questions I asked.Allan: I'm going to plead "no contest". No good reason for wanting to know whether PC is desktop or laptop. Since I didn't know size of partitions, I ASSUMED if laptop (smaller hard drive), "D:" would be small recovery partition that shouldn't be overtly used.

im trying to install a program and since the memory is full i cannot even boot it to save on my external drive (drive E:)

LeoITT:
I don't know what "memory is full" means... Are you REFERRING to the fullness of logical drive "D:" ? Does the system have a pagefile (swap) that's too small ?

You can't even boot what? The "C:" or the "D:" drive?

If you feel logical drive "D:" is filling up, you need to identify what's stored there, and who's filling it up.

yes im referring to the Logical drive D: is for recovery it only has 7 gs of memory in that drive, my PC drive (c: ) is fine, but when i want to install a program the COMPUTER prompts *not enough storage is available to process this command.*

im assuming since my recovery drive is full this set up error displays.

i have backed up my files on my external hdd.

should i go to computer management and format the drive?

please help im a beginner and do not want to mess my pc up, its the only one i have...Quote from: LeoITT on September 27, 2009, 10:09:09 AM

1. Your terminology is very confusing to us. Hard drives do not contain memory (other than cache memory). If you have 156GB free space on "C", there is plenty of remaining storage space. What program are you trying to install?
2. I wouldn't make that assumption.
3. Good!!
4. Absolutely Not.
5. No guarantees, do not format anything!Yes im sorry about that.

1. program im trying install is symantec antivirus 10.2, my PC drive (c:drive) has plenty of space, 158g of 225g are free , BUT my recovery drive (d:drive) is full, the bar is red meaning i only have 565 mb free of 7g.

so when i try to install symantec antivirus 10.2, a set up error appears saying "not enough storage is available to process this command."

thanks.....and sorry for the confusion. Is this also called Norton AntiVirus 2010? Your version is not listed.
It requires 200 MB of available hard disk space.
2008 version requires 180MB of available hard disk space.
2009 version requires 150MB of available hard disk space.
