Solve : hdd not decteted?

Answer»

im trying to replace my 6gb primary slave with a new 160gb seagate.  my pri master is a maxtor.  i can only get one decteted at a time.  always who ever is on the master cable.  slave is never detected.  ive set the jumpers to CS and forcfully slave/master DEPENDING.  why cant i get it to recognize correctly.

i have an asus AK8N mobo.

thanks so muchDid you use the Seagate tools to setup the new HDD ? ?
Until the drive is partitioned and formatted it will not be recognised by Windows.
I would also suggest not using CS, causes headaches on some systems.

patio.  it is formated as ntfs with windows loaded on it, im using the other one for linux.  the problem is the mobo is not detecting it.  if i put either as pri master, it is decteted.  its when i try and use both where which ever is on slave is not deteced.Maybe you bios needs upgrading.........pay the mobo site a visit.....Go into the setup screen and see if the drive is registering, and what MB. It may be a BIOS limitation of the MOTHERBOARD. Since it is a 6 gig drive, I am assuming it is an older model.

More info and we can help.

Asus has no listing for AK8N.

1. The Seagate may not be compatible with the Maxtor.
2. There may be a problem with the IDE cable.  Try a new 80-wire ribbon cable.

Double check that the drives are jumpered correctly.

what OS are you using?? Windows 98/98se does not support very large drives (over 137Gb) at least...not easily. I have just fitted a 200Gb HD and had to clip it to 32GB before the OS would use it.i got it FIGURED out.  i set the seagate to slave and the maxtor to CS.  that combo works, and everything is up and running FINE....Have that computer exorcised soon!   rosemat2:

Stop back any time!
