Solve : HDD problem I'm almost certain.?

Answer»

I would but I can't get in. Can't get in what? The hard drive?
You need to get a hard drive enclosure. With that you can connect your hard drive to a DIFFERENT computer via usb and (hopefully) save all of the data from your hard drive.

Like one of these

or you can do ghosting or create a partition image if you have an extra hard disk.. Quote from: MP1975 on October 07, 2009, 08:27:54 PM

Hp Pavillion vd2000 running XP...
I think you mean HP Pavilion dv2000
There's also a battery recall on these.
http://bpr.hpordercenter.com/hbpr/Thanks all especially the battery recall, hopefully I get to use it. LOL

Looked last night and cannot find the disk that came with the computer.
Would HP send me one?
I do not have access from home to here, apparently, and can only respond and get updates at night when I come to work.

Thanks again,

Not without Service Tag Info. Because of recall, they be more interested in helping you.I still have the tag on the back of my computer and "IF" memory serves me right thats what they usually ask for when you call in.

It's been a long time since I had to call them.HP, Dell, all uses Service Tags. I know Dell's database goes back more than 10 years.Byting the bullet and going to buy a new internal hard drive and oem xp for my dead laptop. RIP

Drive ;

Samsung
120G
serial ata
spinpoint
s/n s09gj10lb28480
hm120ji
ssms
p/n 430121-001
rev a f/w yf100-18
REPLACE with hp spare 417059-001

Thats about all the information on the internal hard drive.

I also need OEM copy of windows XP

This one is not so easy. I would like to properly replace my "INTERNAL" Lightscribe DVD/CD Burner.
There is no p/n or s/n on the drive.
Due to the nature of the laptops death and I am UNABLE to turn it on no further information can be gotten! lol
It's an HP Pavillion DV2000

Thanks in advance.
MP.
Do you need to know how to install the new hard drive or the optical drive or both?Hmmm I need to buy them first.
I know th epeople here know where to get what for the cheapest price available so I leave it up to them. And most importantly I buy it right the first time cause they know their @#$&.

Thanks,
MP.Is that a dv 2000t, dv 2000z, or just a plain old dv 2000?Plain ole dv2000 I think it's better defined by using dv2125nrBefore you go far with this, have you considered just buying a refurbished HP with a warranty? You might find a replacement on d Bay for about $800.

But for $800 you can buy a new laptop that will outperform your HP!
Laptops are hard to service.
Makke a mistake with a screwdriver and it is bye bye baby.I sure have but have been talked out of it by everybody who knows anything!
The HDD is about 60 BUCKS and the OEM XP is about 90. Hopefully the peeps here can find it cheaper.
I do have an external lightscribe rw dvd cd burner but was curious to see what it would cost to get this thing back to its full health status. lol

Why do you say go the new route? (Or refurb) Curious.
