Answer» Hi I've been thinking of upgrading to a new computer. I've been thinking of the HP LINE of computers. I found that they are using the SATA type drives. I have EIDE drive and backup EIDE HDs as backup. My QUESTION is, if I buy an HP with SATA hard drive, can I use a EIDE hard drive(s) as backup drives? Is there a problem with that, like recognition and opperation? I also have a USB EIDE backup drive. I am HOPING that I can do this with the SATA boot drive and EIDE as backup. All help with this is highly appreciated with much thanks ron Well, a new computer may not have any connectors for EIDE drives. If not, and you still would like to install an EIDE drive interally, you could install a PCI IDE (ATA) controller card, such as http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816132005
Another OPTION would be to buy an external enclosure and install your IDE hard drive in it, creating an external USB drive. Hi Thanks for this reply. You gave me all the answers I was looking for. I'm kind of late in response...I forgot about the email. with appreciation R.
