Answer» Hi,
I just GOT a NEW motherboard (MB ECS GOAL3+(1.1C) W/SEMPRON 3000+ 1 N82E16835150087 CPU COOLER ) and heatsink (CPU COOLER MASSCOOL|5F9001B1H3 R 80mm). It seems too big and wont fit. Should i have gotten a 70mm?
Thanks. Did you do any research at all, before selecting that mobo and CPU?
ECS is at the very bottom of the barrel of motherboards. And a Sempron CPU is NOT a good performer. You should have gotten an Athlon. They come with a stock heatsink and fan combo that's more than sufficient for cooling the processor they come with.
There's NEVER any need to go shopping for a cooler when you buy an AMD processor!
I just UPGRADED my own system from an Athlon X2, 64, 3800+ to a Athlon X2, 64 5200+ cpu and the cooler that came with it keeps the heatsink at nearly room temperature, under all loads.
There's absolutely NO need to waste money on an Aftermarket Cooler.

Well, we don't KNOW what he does with his computer. If he's not a gamer, then this may work fine for him. I've been using an ECS motherboard about 5 years now.

I agree but his processor apparently did not come with a stock cooler, so he needs to know what to do now.Yes, it is just a back up (practice build). The HEAT sink 80mm seems a tad too big. i need to know what kinda/size i should get. measure the distance from the cpu to the side of the case and subtract a little of the distance so u have some wiggle room.
