Solve : Heatsink Question?

Answer»

I am replacing my ATHLON x2 5600+ processor with an Athlon 2 x4 650.  Will the x2 heatsink work for the x4 or should I get the one MADE for the x4?  Generally shouldn't be an issue as both CPUs should dissipate a similar amount of heat.  Just make sure you apply new thermal paste and CLEAN the heatsink of any built up dust to maximise its cooling ability, and monitor your temperatures once you've swapped the CPUs over to make sure it's not overheating.Thank You!    Are all thermal pastes about equal or are some better than OTHERS?I like ARCTIC Silver products as for they dont dry up quickly. Some of the cheaper thermal compounds dry up and then your temp will spike as the paste is now a dry powder lacking a thermal bond between CPU and Heatsink surfaces.People say there's no difference between products...Bunk...Arctic Silver is the best out there...I noticed that last time I removed a processor that the paste was completely cracked and dry.  Thanks for that tip!
