My computer also occasionally STARTS up with Windows reporting a slower CPU speed than what is correct for my processor. I then have to access CMOS Setup and change a setting in the BIOS to get my system back to the correct speed. Today, when I re-started from hibernation, my system's date was way off. Both these events indicate a problem with the CMOS battery, the tiny battery on the motherbaord that retains time and BIOS settings. In some CASES, replacing the battery can solve the problem. But, I've seen a case where replacing the battery did not solve a problem of daily losing of time and only motherboard replacement finally solved the problem. Fortunately, the computer was still under WARRANTY.
