Solve : Help: hard disk cant be detected?

Answer»

i got a hard disk 500G by seagate. im using XP as OS and sata for my hard drive. recently its just die off by itself and cant be detected by motherboard. i tested other hard drive and can be detected. so pls advice me.What do you mean "just die off by itself." Any error messages? Does it just freeze?Try it in a different machine...I am having the same problem. I am trying to install a 1TB SATA hitachi drive in a desktop. I have an existing IDE drive configured as Master 1 and a CD drive as Slave 1. I have enabled the SATA controller on the motherboard and when I plug in the cables for the SATA drive, the device manager says that the SCSI/RAID controller has a problem. I don't want a RAID array. I just want the 1TB SATA drive to expand capacity. Can I have both a SATA drive and an IDE drive in the same machine or do I need to disable one? I have the SATA drive set in BIOS as IDE not RAID. Thanks.I'm not experienced like patio but I'd like to KNOW the solution and maybe can help.
1 = What motherboard do you have, aceace04 & oranges ?Hi. I have an ECS PT800CE-A motherboard with 1 GB or ram running Windows XP home edition. Sorry I didn't mention that earlier. thanks for the reply.Quote from: oranges on July 19, 2009, 02:53:17 PM

You may want to try re-installing the driver for the SATA/RAID controller. If it doesn't find the driver on your PC the PT800CE-A VERSION 5.50B driver link is here:

This may not help. If not post results.

OK so that's an improvement over "can't be detected, correct?
So now go to 'My Computer > select that drive, then right click on the drive icon, then select 'Properties". Post what you find there.
or
Go to 'Control Panel' > click 'System' icon > click 'Hardware' tab > click 'Device Manager' > double click the entry 'Disk Drives' > double click the drive listed in question here. That will bring you to the settings tab for that drive which list 'Device Status'.
What does it say in that 'Device Status' box?So now go to 'My Computer > select that drive, then right click on the drive icon, then select 'Properties". Post what you find there.

nothing. my detect my drive not in the safe mode. PLS HELP!!!!

normal start-up > My Computer > right click hard drive icon > Properties > Tools tab > in the box labled "Error Checking" click "Check Now" > check both options boxes then click "Start".
Hopefully that will find any errors if the drive has any.
