Solve : Help! my CD Rewriter wont work!?

Ok .. this has been happening for a while now, but my CD Rewriter doesnt seem to be recognised on my system and its part of my Tower. so its not unplugged.

i can't even put a DISK into the drive, as the draw wont even open!

On the odd occasion that it does recognise my cd rewriter, SOMETIMES it CRASHES my system or makes it incredibly slow and other times it will work. but it hasnt worked for quite some TIME.

because its part of my Tower, i didnt get any kind of installation disks for this.

and my PC is a Windows XP Home EditionHow old is it?
Is it still under warranty?

If it is plugged in correctly and this HAPPENS, the drive is shot. You will need to get another.
