have a very BIG problem here , i have a old HD with photos in i want to burn it on dvd.
so i connect my HD to a transpotable box i have , but when it starts up is play a little sound on about 3-5 sek and then stop all activitet on it , what is that ?
the HD is a maxtor diamondMAXPlus 9

i am connecting with a ide-cable in the box and from the box to my comp. is the connection with usb-cable i have no problems with other HD only this on that play a small sound when it starts up , can't get access to it
  So, I take it that you are putting the HARD drive into an enclosure and that the enclosure connects to your pc via a usb port.  Have you checked the jumper setting on the drive, do you get any error messages, is the disk recognized in BIOS, device manager?

The sound you hear is probably an audible error alert from the OS (you haven't told us which OS you are using), is there an alert message in any of the Event Logs?
