Answer» your mom is kind of wierd then. why would she not want faster internet if it costs her $0 extra and it can save her a line for the landline phone if you guys USE one? your mom is kind of wierd then. why would she not want faster internet if it costs her $0 extra and it can save her a line for the landline phone if you guys use one? That's really nice. Maybe the mom wants to use what she wants to use. Suggestions may be made, but it is up to the person to decide what to do.I know but i thought you'd want to do something you already do but do it faster? But obviously the mom doesn't care that she's still using dialup She plays cash games at worldwinner. She doesnt realize that faster load time = more games played = more moneyThat's a good example. Try to educate her, and not just confront her. AOL users can be very loyal. AOL does a good job of creating an environment where the user feels safe and welcome. She's also been getting alot of 'error code 104' in the middle of the game. Last time she slammed her fist on the table, lol. Hey, does anyone know why a computer would suddenly restart when playing games? this is funny.........my mom also has a dial-up connection and when I go to service her computer is drives me crazy.. If the computer is restarting when you are online, it may be because you have contracted a WORM... I did a fresh installation of my mom's computer a while back and could NOT get any updates because within seconds of being connected, it would restart without any of my doing........It turned out that, because the Windows XP installation disk I was using was the ORIGINAL WinXP ( no FIREWALL or security center) and without a router or hardware firewall protecting the PC, I was wide open to attacks. It finally dawned on me to put up a temporary firewall (PC TOOLS free firewall), before connecting. Then I was able to get all the update and do what I had to do.. The point is, try restoring Windows Firewall DEFAULT settings and see if that helps...I don't know what version of Windows you are using but perhaps your online games opened some ports that shouldn't be open, or YOU accidentally opened some ports that shouldn't be open... Above all else, make sure there is a firewall installed, PERIOD. It only restarts online sometimes. Restarts while playing games OFFLINE. Its probably a hardware issue. dxdiag came back all normal.I would say do a Kaspersky online scan, but that would probably take two days at least, with a dial up connection... so forget that for now At any rate, first thing I would try is running a THOROUGH anti-virus scan.......I don't mean running a single program over and over, I mean using various programs... I generally use this combination......AVG, Spybot S&D, Malwarebytes....Sometimes if one program will not detect a virus, another will.........It might take a long time to download and update them with dial-up, but they are free.. If possible, take a snap shot of what's in the "Process" tab of TASK Manager and post it, If a worm is running, we may be able to see it...IF there is a worm in there, at least we'll know and can likely attribute the problem to a worm........Those anti-virus programs that I SUGGESTED, may find worms as well. i'm going to bed now.........i have head ache! try my suggestions and post back.....................I'll get back ASAP |
