Solve : help, no sound.?

Answer» HI, I have been into the usual advice channels, but,no luck. My grandson was using the computer, de-fragmenting so he told me, I'm pretty computer dim, anyhow since then my sound has disappeared and also the little speakers from the bottom RIGHT, the speakers are in the screen, he was just around and told him to fix it he reckons the speaker port is damaged?,think he's trying to BST me do I have leads to the speaker port? I don't think so, the comp is a Compaq pressario, any help you can give me?ok, your sound is probably hooked into a little green port in the back of the case. if it isnt plugged into that port than you will not get any sound. check the back of your speakers and make sure it is plugged into there also. also make sure you dont have it on mute.Sounds like the drivers are missing.

Has Windows been reinstalled recently or anything changed?Hi, my son installed windows update, but it was okay, then my grandson said i needed de-fragmentation which he did, it was then i noticed the sound had gone, when i asked him to look he said the port at the back was broken??? this i find hard to belive, when i go into the the sound/audio help section on my computer the whole area is GREY so UNABLE to click on anything.Did you look at the port??? Do you KNOW if its on board or a card?? What is the make and model of the sound card or (if it's on-board sound) the motherboard? Thanks for your help,my computer is a compaq, how do i find the name of my sound board, i'm not very up on this
