Please post all the specs that you can find on that machine - CPU, RAM, O/S, power supply, etc. and etc. for an appropriate answer.
We could guess, but let's not. sorry ----------------------- Processor Intel Pentium 4 2.4 GHz Installed Memory 512 MB (DDR SDRAM) Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Recommended Use Home Use Processor Processor TYPE Intel Pentium 4 Processor Speed 2.4 GHz Processor Manufacturer Intel MAX Processors Qty. 1 Motherboard Bus Speed 533 MHz Video Output Interface AGP 4x Memory RAM Technology DDR SDRAM Installed RAM 512 MB Max Supported RAM 1.5 GB Installed Cache Memory 512 KB I'm assuming this is a SONY, so you only have an AGP 4x slot in it. Cards are backward compatible, so no problem there, but the power supply is probably not huge. The one you picked is fine. It certainly is not the BEST gaming card, but it should work OK.
You might want to search for AGP 8x cards at www.newegg.com with 128 meg memory. It will list them all in order of price, lowest to highest. You can also read reviews from actual users of each.4x also works with 8x cards even tho some cards are not 4x? edit: also i have been thinking geforce 6600gt agp. and which video card do you think would work best for my comp?I think your computer has an AGP x8 slot. You may want to check your PSU Watts too.Isck - I mentioned that the AGP is backwards compatible.
Fed - It is a 4x slot, per this listing:
http://hardware.gamespot.com/Sony-VAIO-Digital-Studio-PCV-RX860-3235-S-1-2ooo thx edit: btw would GDDR3 work on computers that are DDR SDRAM, no right?I think your computer has an AGP x8 slot.
OOPS! Quote ooo thx edit: btw would GDDR3 work on computers that are DDR SDRAM, no right? What? In English please.
I'm still trying to get over that " got a pretty old computer" comment and it's a P4 2.8 Ghz. the video card im planning to get is:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150089&CMP=KNC-overturesmx&ATT=product and the memory type is:GDDR3 while my computer is DDR SDRAM i got it mix up they really have nothing to do with each other You are CORRECT. They have absolutely nothing to do with each other.
