Solve : help with laptop- please?

Answer»

my laptop kept getting hot and shutting down- so i took it to repair shop- they said had corrupted files, and SUGGESTED reformat. i have some documents i'd like to save if POSSIBLE. i realized it was probably getting hot DUE to dust in the fan- so i cleaned that. sometimes it will come on and work fine- other times it wont even come on- the power light will, but screen stays black, and sometimes it will come on all by itself. the system is vista, it is aspire 3680 2682 Quote

they said had corrupted files,
I would like to speak to them.
No doubt they OFFERED to fix it?

I don't think reformatting is they key.

Is this a recent problem? Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on October 12, 2008, 09:21:49 AM

I agree with Carbon Dudeoxide.Have you looked into a laptop/Notebook cooler as an option ?

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=3486We still have to CONFIRM it's an overheating problem.

An external fan will do this.

i have a tray thing now- but still gets hot- i am thinking about getting a cooling device- IF i can get the pc to work again- for an outside fan...is there a certain place to focus on or just to keep cool in general?Just have it blow at the computer.

Also, download and install Speed Fan.
Once you run it, post the temperatures.i have put fan near it- it's power is on and has black screen still (more than a min). So the computer is staying on longer now?

Quick question, when the screen goes black, can you still say ANYTHING on the screen if you hold it up to a light or TILT it at an angle?
