Answer» I'm new to the whole computer THING, and have a really simple question (i think).
I'm getting a new video card, NVIDIA GeForce 6600, to replace my AGING card. My current power supply (250W) is no where near the capacity I need. I'm buying a 450W, will it fry my motherboard, or in any other way damage my computer?? My mother board: FIC VC19 Pentium 4 CPU 2.53GHz and 1GB of ram (nothing fancy i know)
I just want to know if my computer would WORK fine with a higher voltage power supply? http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/A 450 watt PSU will not cause any damage to your system. I would advise you though, to buy a quality PSU and not an el cheapo. A cheaply constructed PSU, regardless of its wattage rating, is a WASTE of money and might provide less service than the 250 you have (which you know is inadequate).
Higher wattage does not mean higher voltage, except for stability.I wish I had a 1000 Watt power supply or better still 2000 Watt.
