what's better for the computer? Shut it down overnight, let it go into standby, or hibernate? someone said that the repeated shutdowns of the hard drive are worst then just leaving it on all the time. I have my machines set to have the monitor go into standby after 1 hours of inactivity but the hard drives are always active. ( 1 pc has only been shutdown a handful of times in 5 years)
It is a fact that repeated shutdowns and startups are not a good thing for the machine.
I suppose the bottom LINE is that you should do what you feel comfortable with .
Now there are always exceptions to this ...for example if you live in an area which has frequent electrical storms...The use of a HIGH QUALITY surge protector is a MUST and a well grounded electrical system ........also a good UPS would also be of great value .
