Answer» I'm playing around with an old PC & am trying to set it up as dual boot W95b (OSR 2.1) & W98SE. I've got W95 installed to C: but need to hide C: so I can install W98 to D:
(a) is there a DOS COMMAND for hiding a partition or is the only way by installing a boot manager before W98? I've seen some instructions (see attached word doc), but it SEEMS to be for using the command prompt in more recent windows OSs - the commands weren't recognised by the DOS underlying W95b (version 4.00.1111)
(b) if the answer to that's a yes, then is it possible to run a W95/98 dual boot system without 3rd party software (boot manager)? If so could anyone point me towards any tutorials?
In case anyone's WONDERING why on earth I'd even want to bother with W95 & 98, it's partly so I can run some old programs but also as a learning exercise - I want to play around with using/controlling a PC VIA command line instead of GUI.
Cheers all

You might want to consider Microsoft Virtual PC to run the old OS's on a newer PC. I've recently done this myself & find it a better option than using an old PC. VPC is a free download. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/Only way for single directional hiding would be FAT16/FAT32 & NTFS. Where NTFS would be unknown to Win 95 and Win 98 and a Win 2000 Pro or newer NT based OS like XP, Vista, or even 7 would see all. I would go with virtualization myself or if your comfortable with editing the boot.ini, you can make it dual boot. Here is more info: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306559
