Answer» I am about to get a P4 3.4 ghz chip to put on a P23g motherboard. There are 2 power connectors. The usual atx 20 pin connector and the 4 pin square 12v power connector. My power supply presently doesnt have the 12 volt connector. It says in the manual that its for "vcore" items. I dont mind buying a new power supply but wont if I dont have to. So my question is what is this 12 volt connector for. I got on the net and found myself here. Any help would be nice. Thanks. RobertThis square connector is usually found on newer power SUPPLIES.
Older power supplies may not have these. It allows you to connect to a P4 mobo.you'll be OK without the 12 volt connector on that mobo*

Yes it will be the MB but its V 1.0, not V3.0 according the store Im buying it from. Is there a problem If I do get a PS and put this 12 volts to the connector or will I fry the whole DARN thing out? If it boosts speed of course I want to but Ill wait for a reply. Thanks for the quick replys already. VCORE is the operating voltage of a CPU or GPU (or other device containing a processing core). It can be altered to help overclock a processor by reducing the time the circuit's logic gates take to SWITCH states. - Wikipedia
If your BIOS permits it, you can overclock your CPU, graphics, etc., using the voltage from your power supply.
