Solve : How do I format a mysql table, using a PHP program?

I have the following program :

$result_set = mysql_query( "SELECT * FROM team_attributes");
   print "";

". mysql_field_name($result_set, $c)."
". $record[$c]."
";


Which yields the following RESULTS:

TEAM              P W D L F A GD Pts
Arsenal          0 0 0 0 0 0    0    0
Aston Villa      0 0 0 0 0 0   0    0
Birmingham    0 0 0 0 0 0   0    0
Blackburn       0 0 0 0 0 0   0    0

How do I format the table to show borders and spacing, I tried to embed the HTML tags for border etc.. within my program but this shows an error. 

Help would be greatly appreciated
