Solve : How do i reset??

Answer»

I want to set my computer back a fewe days. I know I have done this before but am not sure how i did it. I must of downloaded some spyware and in the process of trying to get rid of it i have 2 things that pop up when I turn my computer on. One to install increidmail and antoher saying some file is not found. I just want to set it back to before it happened. I went to system RESTORE and could only go back to a few hours ago. How do I restore it?You can restore it by resolving the problem. Masking it will not make it go away, but only post pone the inevitable.

SCAN in safe mode, disable System Restore beforehand
Virus scanners
AVG Free
-- Anti virus scanner

Anti spy/malware
Microsoft Antispyware
-- Anti spyware scanner. Windows XP Home and Professional only.
Spybot Search & Destroy
-- Anti spyware scanner
Adaware SE Personal

Firewalls
Using only one firewall is advised. Dual firewalls may cause problems.
Using a hardware firewall and a software firewall is even more adviced.

ZoneAlarm Free

Sygate Personal
-- Free firewall - more configuration options

Removal tools
The following files are not substitutes for the ones described above.
They are either diagnostic tools or removal tools for malware of a certain kind

HijackThis
-- Manual malware remover. Post the HijackThis log generated only if requested!
McAfee Stinger
-- Virus removal tool. No substitute for a fully functional virus scanner!
CWshredder
-- CoolWebSearch removal tool. Widely known and persistant HIJACKER.

Easy Cleaners
-- Freeware registry scanner
Registrar Lite
-- Excellent replacement for Windows Regedit
Crap Cleaner
-- Freeware registry scanner/history cleaner

Caution is advised when using these programs!
Create backups of all important files before proceeding.
Gwen:

You can only use System Restore points that are available.  The only other way to restore your system is to restore a backup that you yourself have MADE using the operating system's backup program or a third party backup program.

A more drastic method is to do a repair installation (if you have Windows XP, for example).
