What version of windows is this? What is the make and model of the hard drive? When did the problem start? What is the exact error message you're getting? Is this a problem with a specific file/folder or all of them?im currently using a windows xp home edition...but its having problem so im using my laptop...a gateway laptop with windows xp it is a lacie external hardrive it STARTED 2 months ago...after that i did not mind it, but when i had a problem with my main computer...i wanted to back up my music files it is one folder that says is corrupted...but i try to delete the other file in there but it just stays in the deleting window...and then that error message pops upTry running a chkdsk on the drive to make sure it's error free. Goto the start menu and select Run... Type cmd and hit enter. In the new window type chkdsk followed by the drive letter and then /R. For example, if your external hard drive is mapped to d: the command would be: chkdsk d: /R (It might take a while to complete)Hi-newbie here. I know this post is old but I am currently experiencing a similar problem. I recently purchased a new machine with Vista, my old machine is win98se. I attempted to transfer some files from old to new via flashdrive. In one particular folder, which I successfully copied to flash, to vista, now has 3 files in it on the flash drive that cannot be deleted. They no longer have names. One of the files has a square instead of a name, the other a \, and the 3rd looks to be an r. UPDATE Strange thing, I was just able to delete the file named r. Initially it said that the file was too big for the recycle bin and if I wanted to completely delete it. Of course I said yes and off it went. I tried the one with \ and it told me Cannot delete file. File system error (1026). The same for the file with the square. I am also unable to rename those files.Same file system error. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. You should start a new thread rather than resurrecting one that is two years old - and isn't yours in the first place.didn't look at the date and thought deerpark was posting again! Misschris should have started a new post but you have to admire the fact that she looked through 2 years of posts to find an answer to her problem |
