actually THERES since in that. all the version of windows, up to the Win NT family of OS's were based upon DOS. Windows NT, 2K, XP ,and Vista arent based on dos which makes it self-realiant. Win ME was the last OS to be based upon DOS(16-bit)I thought that where all dos based?  Well Learning as I go.no The NT(INCLUDING NT x.x, 2000, XP, Vista) family of OS's where the first to be self-reliant without the need for DOS.

If you knew about DOS then all the Windows version up to Win ME were second nature since all the were were fancy GUI's that MADE DOS easier to use without even having to type stuff on the command prompt. Once Windows NT came out, it was a whole new world since the NT family was 32bit compared with the 16/32bit hybrid of the old Windows versions.
