Answer» Quote from: BC_Programmer on June 15, 2010, 07:48:22 PM ack Does BC stand for Bill the Cat?Earlier I used this method in my old PC. The USB gets power only when the Pc is turned on. But now that I am using new mobo with USB Power, the problem arises since the UB has power all the time. You know sometimes a SOLUTION is right in front of you and you don't realize it. I think such is my case.I have a piece of hardware (basically a switched powerbar) =Nexxtech model NU-288. Now where the relevance to your desires is the fact that this powerbar has 4 switchable 110v outlets and one USB input and 4 USB out puts on it. I believe with the combination of the USB ports and a timer on the bar itself you ought to be able to accomplish your wishes. I suggest that you google it and see what you think. I got mine at a "Source" in Canada (i think they are Circuit City in the U.S. Goodluck, truenorthQuote from: truenorth on June 16, 2010, 10:18:03 AM ...i think they are Circuit City in the U.S.... On May 19, 2009, selected assets of Circuit City, Inc. were sold to Systemax Inc., including intellectual property (trademarks, patents, etc.), domain names, customer lists, contact information, other customer basic information and other assets. There are no more retail stores.Quote from: lahratla on June 15, 2010, 08:04:22 PM It's a Nokia Siemens C2110. I modded myself so that it gets power from the USB and is turned on exactly at the start of the free night time download period which starts at 2am. You may check out how I mod it here http://www.chip.in/forums/viewtopic.php?t=32007You are exceeding the USB power output from the motherboard. USB only supports [emailprotected] per port. http://www.usb.org/developers/usbfaq#pow1Maybe i'm the only one here who is DAFT but i still can't grasp the dilemna....Yes I know that USB gives 5v which is adequate for my modem. The problem I am facing now is that the modem is always on as the USB ports of the motherboard are made in such AWAY that they are giving out power all the time even if the PC is turned off or on standby or hibernation. USB ports of normal motherboards gives out power only when the PC is turned on, which is not the case with my system and that is my problem.lahratla, What about the product i suggested--taking the usb out from the computer to the bar (inserting it into the "input of the switchable via a usb cable) then connecting your modem to one of the output usb ports on the bar. Putting the bar on a timer to shut off the modem at the desired time. If i read the original post your desire is to be able to shut off the modem at a time when you are not attending the computer IE: when your asleep. Seems to me this would do that.truenorthI googled, but couldn't find it. Kindly let me know the website. Moreover, I'm living in India and the power rating we use out here is 220v. Is there any product of this kind that will support 220v 50Hz? Quote from: Computer_Commando on June 16, 2010, 04:32:08 PM You are exceeding the USB power output from the motherboard. The more I read this thread, it sounds like the the OP is risking burning out a mother board to save a few cents of power. Modems just don't use that much power.with the additional fact of your geographic situation i am sorry but i am out of suggestions to meet your power situation REQUIREMENTS (other than an additional converter to 110 from 220--but then where are you going to locate the Nexxtech device? )truenorthQuote from: lahratla on June 16, 2010, 08:01:29 PM Yes I know that USB gives 5v which is adequate for my modem. Both volts & amps. |
