Solve : how wikipedia feels during the pledge drive?

Answer»

Topic blatantly stolen from here.I'll confess I'm puzzled.  What is that image meant to imply, that wikipedia should not have a pledge drive? Quote from: soybean on December 07, 2010, 10:41:58 PM

They put his face everywhere.
Well, this PARTICULAR page view is apparently the result of someone's creative work with some photo editing software to express how some people might get tired of seeing his face, even though they normally put only one image of it at the top of the page, whenever they visit wikipedia during the pledge drive.  Still, maybe wikipedia realized people might not like seeing his face so often; they've been using a female's photo in the campaign, a woman named Lilaroja, from Spain.

And, maybe that absurd edited version of the page on that website, called The Daily *censored*, is their way of saying they dislike the campaign altogether, regardless of who is featured in the campaign ads.  The reality is that wikipedia does not PLACE commercial ads on their site so they apparently rely on the annual FINANCIAL support pledge drive to get funds to support the staff needed to keep the website running.

It reminds me of a radio station - I believe a local affiliate of NPR (National Public Radio) - which runs a periodic campaign drive.  During their campaign drive, the frequent pledge solicitation on the radio gets a bit tiring but, like wikipedia, they do not use advertising and therefore need funding from pledged donations.  actually I only noticed the woman (Wikipedia author) just this morning.

It was on TDWTF it's not on the front page. In fact if it was that would be really dumb.

It was actually posted by a forum member who goes by the handle "blakeyrat" and I assure you, he has absolutely zero problems with it. Actually, he considers anybody who blocks ads at all as thieves on the caliber of software pirates, so I doubt he finds the campaign ads annoying, and more or less found the image to be an amusing lampshade that they were (at the time) using only his image in VARIOUS locations on the page. At LEAST true ads had some variety.

EDIT: however, all that said, I shall remember not to post things I find mildly humorous in this forum Quote from: BC_Programmer on December 08, 2010, 09:18:41 AM

Well, that sounds like a plan.  Change mildly to wildly.  Then, you'll have a winner.   Heh. I laughed.
