Answer» had an HP 420, took the hard drive out and wanted to place it in a HP xt919. I tried just unplugging the old drive and replacing it with my other drive, but when I turned on the computer, it loaded the HP screen then just went to the BLACK bios screen and did nothing? How can I get the 919 to recognize and utilize the other hard drive?First, did you set the jumpers for the new drive to be the master and not the slave? Also, you may need to insert a bootdisk in order to start the computer and install your operating system.
FlameI don't know what the configuration to set the jumpers is. The hard drive was the master on my old computer, so I shouldn't have to change it. The hard drive is complete already with operating system. It was my hard drive out of an existing computer. Basically I moved from AZ to VA and couldn't bring my CPU so I just brought my hard drive instead since there was already a working computer here.Well, I'm no expert with HD's, but if connect the HD from one computer to another as the master, it's bound to cause issues, becuase the hardware is different... For example, the HD wants to use drivers for a NVIDIA video card, but you have an ATI installed... It won't work... This is an interesting one... Anyone care to help?
FlameJust for the record, Both the cpus are using nvidia CARDS and driversThe chipsets are different, as are the other components no doubt. Do you have a REAL Windows CD to install with the new set up?YAY I was right about drivers and such being different THUS the reason this is not working!
