Answer» I just moved to Pittsburgh and I desperately NEED to install a program I have on a cdr onto my mothers computer. I cant afford to buy my own at this moment due to my house burning down in Arizona and all my computers were destroyed and I had to relocate to pa. All my files that I have saved to a external hard drive work with this program and without it I am screwed and right now I cant afford to buy my own computer to put the program on it.... My mother has a Dell Dimension E 510 Pentium 4 3.0 her operating system is windows XP service pack 3 and she has a cd/dvd drive (tsstcorp CDRWDVD TS-H492C) everytime I put the disk in the green light goes on on the cd/dvd rom and then after a minute it does not do anything.....so then I go into my computer and click the drive and it opens up as if nothing is on the disk?? When I go to my brothers computer at a different house (which is 30 miles away) and put the same disk in his computer the program opens up??? When I try other cdr's and other cd's and other dvd's they all work fine on my mom's computer? What gives please help??? I really really need to get this program on my mother's computer. So I can use the files. I have installed this same program on many other computers in the past so I know it is not the program or the cdr itself??? First of all, I'm very sorry for your loss. Quote All my files that I have saved to a external hard drive work with this programWhat program is it?when at your brothers system, attach your external hard drive and create a folder(CD1/whatever)...copy the contents of the CD to the folder(don't forget to enable hidden files first)....take the external hard drive to your mothers system and you should be ABLE to get your program that you copied to the folder on the external hard drive...!!! good luck Quote from: fgdn17 on November 30, 2008, 02:04:34 PM when at your brothers system, attach your external hard drive and create a folder(CD1/whatever)...copy the contents of the CD to the folder(don't forget to enable hidden files first)....take the external hard drive to your mothers system and you should be able to get your program that you copied to the folder on the external hard drive...!!! This has less chance of working than 3 cops at a Donut shop...you cannot simply copy a program from one drive/machine to another and expect it to work. Please think before hitting the Post BUTTON. "need to install a program" you have never taken a program from one machine and installed it to another machine??? simple example, downloaded WindowsDefender.msi a few months ago..have installed it on 3 different machines at home...by copying it from one machine then installing on another machine....it the source NOT THE WORKING PROGRAM...IT'S CALLED INSTALL!!! so maybe you should think through your 3 cops again...!!! Please think before hitting the Post button. Copying IS different FROM Installing.............. LOLZ........ Quote from: fgdn17 on December 01, 2008, 08:19:34 AM
Good advice, that you didn't take. Quote from: rebel214 on December 06, 2008, 12:55:15 AM
correct..and if you READ what I said nowhere did I say to copy a working program to another machine....and those who don't understand the procedures being offered would do best by not commenting...IMO fgdn17, please drop this stupid argument. Quote from: Dias de VERANO on December 06, 2008, 11:00:35 AM fgdn17, please drop this stupid argument. I did on Dec. 1st, seems like others including yourself needed to bring it up again and I was responding...so stupid is as stupid does I guess...How about everyone stops, and waits for the OP to return? It looks doubtful that they will, but that's no excuse for rebel to bump a 5 day old thread with nothing useful to add, and then continue arguing from there. |
