Solve : I broke something else! (Wireless Pcmia card))?

Answer»

Hey all, I've BROKE something else

I got this PCMCIA card (Motorola brand, 802 G from the infamous wally market) home and was installing it. Everything's going fine and its showing up as the correct card and new hardware is installing it, then windows pulls the normal on me. It gives me a ERROR that setup can not load windi.dll to install the network device i'am trying to install.

This didnt seem odd because i had done a minimal install of Win98SE on this following machine:

233mhz
64mb ram
(4 gig HDD space)

So i hunted down this DLL to discover that if i enter the c:\windows folder, the folder locks up and crashes and then explorer locks up as perdicted.

I attempted to uninstall/reinstall the drivers but i didnt get the motrola pop ups and the motorla uitlites did NOT detect the card, it comes up as 'generic pci network adapter'

Then, i did the general windows up keep:
- chk disk
-scan disk
- system file checker(i couldnt find the win98 cd so i had to use the backups in c:\windows to the 8 or so DLLS found messed in system/system 32))
-defraged
(+ a antivirus and adaware/spyware scan)

and pasted it into system and system32- i still get the same error  when  it trys to install; the difference being it's still listed as generic pci adapter.

HOWEVER; now i can get into windows folder it's running slow and crashes at random; but no LONGER takes explorer with it. Copy/pasteing windi.dll to system/system32 and replaceing the messed setupx.dll seems to have no effect; besides system file checker and anything accessing windows folder (ala browseing for a file to load in it) also crashes at random..

I'd reinstall 98; but i've lost the disc. If anyone knows something to fix this WITHOUT the disc/reinstall; please suggest (feel free to post with install on the chance that i do find it)

Thanks before handI seem to have made a little progess- i discovered that netos.dll was tied in with netdi.dll and then windows was able to detect it as a unkown device, but not detect the drivers or installed motorola programs.

Add new hardware SET it up as some new generic notebook adapter, but i dont see that in the device panel, and it has the same name in the pcmica card manager.

The power/link lights will not come on.
