Solve : I can't CHKDSK my HD HELP?

Answer»

somebody pls help me. I can't chkdsk my drive D: it says that the master file is corrupt. Can my files be recovered? pls give me instructions.Hello! Welcome to CH!
Regarding your problem, we need additional info. Please read here: more infoim using windows XP SP3 with 1gb RAM, 260gb HD...

when i BOOT my pc after the windows xp loads the chkdsk start automatically. it checks my drive D: (seagate 260gb IDE) but the dskchk always aborts it says..... "Corrupt Master File Table... DSKCHK aborted". on the other hand if i double click the drive D: a message prompt will appear that says "D/: is not accessible.... The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable."

How can i solve this problem. can i back up my file in this drive? Is there any sounds produced on your harddisk? Unreasonably hot?there is no different sound produced by my HD it sound like my other HD it is not also hot.

here another info when i ryt click my drive D: and click properties these are the details:

Type : Local Disk
File System: RAW

Used Space : 0 bytes
Free Space : 0 bytes

Capacity : 0 bytes

hope that details will help. and i also think that my HD did not crashRAW is bad news. It means that windows thinks the drive is blank.
Although I have training in hard drive technology, I can not recommend anything at this point. It is possible that most of your data is still there and only an entry in the MAR has been changed. That is very unlikely an accident. It would almost always be a deliberate act by you, someone else, or a hostile program.
Have you recently used strange or new drive utilities? Did you have a failed install of a Linux system?
Anyway, I don't think I am able to help you with this one. Sorry.
Maybe somebody else here knows what to do. all i did was watch my video in real player then it is not playing. i try another vidoe from my drive D: then a message from the NOTIFICATION area appears that there is some files corrupt. after that i restart my pc. then the chkdsk automaticaaly start after the windows xp load then thats it it says "Corrupt Master file table... dskchk aborted"

i also try to chkdsk my D: in the command prompt it is also the same it also says
"Corrupt Master file table... dskchk aborted".

HELP ME ANYONE. i have tons of videos in this drive how can i recover it. The only recovery advice from MS is to format and reinstall from backup!

However, the CHKREG.EXE UTILITY seems to have had some success in recovering corrupt entries, see here. You'd have to alter the WINNT to WINDOWS if you decide to give it a go. I have never run CHKREG.

You COULD also try running the Seagate hdd diagnostics to find out if the hdd has failed. See this post.

Hang in there, others may have experienced the same problem and they MIGHT post a solution when they get out of bed.

Good luck. This basically means the MFT is corrupted,
You could try this freeware application:
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

And as you can still get into windows and run it inside windows here's the link to the in-windows version rather than a live cd.

http://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk-6.10.win.zip

It is licensed under GNU General Public License so you don't have to worry about it being shareware or trial versions

Hope this helps!
