Try downloading this Realtek driver. I got it from the Gateway website, and it is shown as the audio driver for your Gateway GT5082 Desktop PC, so it should work.

Follow the "How to Install" instructions if you get lost. Good luck.I did something similar and fixed it by doing a 'system restore'. If memory serves you go Start > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore . Choose a date before which you did the delete. Caution: If the last retore date was some time ago you may lose more than you gain.Have you gone under Microsoft Update, and looked for "Hardware" updates? Your sound driver would be in there.

NEVER download drivers from Microsoft / Windows update. Always obtain them from the OEM websites.You can also go to DEVICE MANAGER under the Computer management icon from the Administrative Control menu under Settings and find the audio card. It should have a yellow exclamation mark or question mark.
Follow the screen instructions to download a new driver from the MS database.
