Solve : I have no pci slots in my computer and need one!? |

Answer» Is there a usb PCI expansion slot or anything anywhere so that I can use my pci device in a computer that has no pci slots? All I have is PCI-X for my video card. You can use a PCI-X slot as a PCI slot I believe.. Not sure.. What do you need with server technology and USB ports anyway? Quote All I have is PCI-XIf, in fact, you have no PCI slots, it is because you have a small micro machine and the power supply is probably equally small and couldn't tolerate any more draw before the thing burst into flames. You cannot add PCI slots to a motherboard. Sorry.Quote All I have is PCI-X for my video card.Dude, can you show me where I can buy a PCI-X video card?Quote QuoteAll I have is PCI-X for my video card.Dude, can you show me where I can buy a PCI-X video card? Like I said, you can put PCI cards in PCI-X slots, so what if he's talking about a PCI videocard? We don't know.. So why don't you try to correct him instead of me? I'm not the one using the wrong lingo here.Look, we know he has ONE slot. That's the gist of his original post. Yes, perhaps it's a PCI slot, but I'd say it's more likely a PCI Express slot. In any case, he has one slot and it's being used for his video card. Now, given that, what was the point of you saying, in your first reply, "You can use a PCI-X slot as a PCI slot I believe..."? It was an illogical STATEMENT. So, stop making the critical comments toward me anytime I post something where you feel I'm "correcting" you. I'm not on some mission to attack you. I acknowledge that you very knowledgeable, but, sometimes, you have a tendency to perhaps hurriedly throw replies out there without taking time to get the logic totally right. And stop making OBNOXIOUS, rude, immature replies to everything I post. I've seen quite a lot of that today. I don't think you're endearing yourself to many people with that behavior. So who got corrected? :-? Wonder what the make and model of this computer is....Hmmmm. Mark usually demands this. Wonder if it would help us, help the poster, help us,to help them? :-?Ok, let me try again. I guess I was a bit too vague. And just for clarification, it is PCI-E (Express), I am not sure why I put PCI-X. :-? I have a Shuttle SN26P. 3800+ Athlon 64, 2 gb ram, and a 256mb PCI-E 7600GT video card. With a 350w SilentX power supply and a Shuttle ICE liquid cooling technology with 5 cooling fans (so, no my computer will NOT burst into flames). I do not have a PCI slot at all, only PCI-Express, and I have a PCI card that I want to use in my computer. What I wanted to know was if there was a way to be able to use the card. I know that you can not add PCI slots to motherboards (thank you capitan obvious), and I know that there are large versions of PCI Expansion bays (well over $1000), what I want to know is if there are smaller versions that are USB that would work with my SYSTEM. Or if anyone has been sucessful in building one from scratch from extra computer parts or whatnot. Thanks No, I do not recall ever seeing a reasonably priced solution, and it certainly will increase the footprint of your tiny system if you do (and I assume you wanted a supersmall box for some reason). That's a lot of equipment running on a 350 w. PSU. I wasn't kidding about probably not taking much to overtax it! You probably paid a prety penny for those components.karmakat357 I did some real searching and all I could find was really expensive. I can't find anything that would adapt that isn't off the chart in price. RobertI have seen and read everything here except one little thing. What freaking kind of mobo is in that little square box? odd pci-e and no spare pci ? curious, did I miss something above? *NEVER MIND* half asleep , I read the rest of the article on the square box!! sorry |
