Answer» Hello: I've GOT myself into a corner with this IBM t41p. This laptop was fine one minute and messed up. The screen started to smear then froze up then went black. Then I shut it down and restarted it and all I got was the IBM logo. I was told that with getting the logo the motherboard was OK. Then I was told to replace the hard drive so I did and it didn't fix it. I also went and took it all apart and blew it all out. Their is no change in this computer. Does anyone have an idea as what could be done to fix this FUTURE paperweight?Have you read this? 1. I was told that with getting the logo the motherboard was OK.1. Probably correct, but it's no guarantee. 2. Did you install Windows on the new hard drive? Does the BIOS recognize the the existence of the hard drive, the old one or the new one. 3. Can't hurt. 4. Are there any "beep codes" when you turn it on? "The screen started to smear then froze up then went black. Then I shut it down and restarted it and all I got was the IBM logo." This DESCRIPTION is some kind of clue which eludes me. It does seem like something overheated and then blew out, which brings us back to the motherboard. Hello Again: Yes sir I already went through the manual but it don't help to repair the problem. #1 I KNOW it's no guarantee but that is why I ask you. #2 I started to install windows and got about a third of it when it froze up again and started over but all I got was the logo and it went black. #3 It seamed to help a little #4 Their are NO "beep codes" just the logo when it get warmed up and yes the fan is running. |
