Answer» I just pretty much built a custom computer, and all was going well until it wouldn't let me install windows (on formating step it never got passed 0% complete) and I tried 3 different hard drives. But that is not my current problem anymore. Right now, it won't even show anything on my monitor. My monitor works fine as I have tested it on my laptop. Also, when I plug the monitor to my computer it SAYS it has a signal on the monitor. But when I turn on the computer it turns on, fans run, makes all those normal sounds, lights on, etc.. but nothing shows up on the screen. Not even the BIOS or pre-boot up steps. Just a black screen of doom.Unplug all add-on cards except for the graphics card. Remove all but one memory card. Unplug all dirves except your main hard drive. Then try starting up. (This problem could be caused by numerous faults, so reduce the system to its bare minimum. If it works like that, add the extras in gradually until you see the fault again.) And yes I have tried resetting the CMOS.Did you also re-seat your video card? Are you METICULOUS when working inside your computer? Don't get me wrong but I've seen people who think they are doing things carefully when in fact they really need to have their hands amputated to protect them from themselves.Quote Did you also re-seat your video card?Yeah, I also tried the on-board video card. And yes I am VERY meticulous. After all, it is like hundreds of dollars worth of parts that I don't want to waste.*bump*Quote Have you tried a new Power Supply Unit?I have tried disconnecting the CD and floppy drives, but however I do not think it is the power supply because i was working fine for 2-3 days before this happened out of nowhere.issue is with the video card Issue is with no video on monitor which may or may not be due to the video card. Please list components we are talking about.I hate to hijack this thread, and I am not trying to do so, but I came to this website trying to fix a problem I have had, and found that I am having almost the same exact problem as you. Perhaps we can find a common component. I will describe my problem and let you know what components I have. My Components: Processor: Intel P4 650 Memory: 2x Corsair CMX1024-3200PRO Motherboard: Asus P5P800 Videocard: ATI AIW 9800 Pro 128M Power Supply: Antec Truepower 2.0 430watt My Problem: My computer was running fine for about 1 year. I came home one day and my screen was frozen. I REBOOTED and was getting various BIOS error messages, then all of a sudden, there was no video card output. I attempted replacing the videocard with a known working card, but to no avail. Because of the bios errors I was getting, I decided to get a new motherboard. I got the same make and model (ASUS P5P800). I replaced the motherboard, and was still having the same problem with both videocards. The system would not even POST. The status lights on the RAM would not light up, even for a second. So, I thought I might have fried my processor. I got a new processor, installed it and... nothing different. I tried getting a new power supply, installed that and nothing. I have tried booting with both videocards and checked my monitor to make sure that was working. The only thing I have noticed different is, every once in a while the one orange status light on the one stick of RAM will go on for about 10 seconds upon power. The light will then go off, then... nothing. I have 2 sticks of the RAM listed above. I have tried booting with both sticks, stick 1 only, stick 2 only and no ram at all. I am at the end of my rope here. I have unhooked all AGP and PCI cards and unplugged all SATA and IDE cables from the board and it is still HANGING in the same spot. I practically have a brand new system (replaced every component I can) and I know it has to be something totally stupid. I can not see both sticks of ram going bad at the same TIME. I have tested my monitor, and it does work. If anyone has suggestions for me, please let me know. I need help with this, because I have NO idea what is going on. Perhaps we can help each other out with our problem. Thanks:) |
