Solve : IBM Aptiva Hard Drive Upgrading?

Answer»

I have an IBM Aptiva PC which came with a 10.1 GB hard drive and the IBM website/support allows only for their one upgrade which is only for 20.1 GB. The only info IBM will supply me is that the original works with IDE ATA/66 interface and that their upgrade hard drive being EIDE ATA/100 will work.
What I need is to upgrade to at least 40GB and if I buy an IDE ATA/133 whether it will work.
Have given the info below. Grateful foe any help!

PC Information[/b]: Aptiva 2194-440 Serial Number:CZZ01HB
Original description: Intel Pentium III 667MHz (256KB), 64MB, 10GB IDE HDD, Microtower (3X4), Intel 810e 2X AGP, DVD 8X, 56K, Win98SE

Original Hard Drive
IBM 10.1GB IDE hard disk drive (5400RPM) Option Part number: 00N8202 Replacement (FRU) Part number: 36L8681

IBM's only Upgrade Hard Drive
20.4GB 5400rpm ATA/100 (EIDE) HDD Part number: 22P7150Ok, first...  Your computer is a desktop, yes?  In that case, whether you can upgrade to a 40GB ATA/133 depends on your motherboard.... Information which you didn't supply.  So, can you find your motherboard make?  Given that information, after some searches on google, we should be able to find out if it's possible,Thanks RS...

have some more information on the system board.
System board diagram (Intel 810e) - Aptiva 2194 / IBM PC300 (type 6345) / NetVista 6345

IBM 19K3582 NETVISTA SYSBRD 6018/6269 810E
(the 19K3582 is IBM's part number)

So, the system board seems to be described as either
NETVISTA 6345 or NETVISTA SYSBRD 6018/6269 810Ejust have to hard drives.............done. slave  them ide cable needed...............you .need more ram mate??only for drives allowed?there should a bios upgrade check intels website.........or consider this>>http://www.pcmech.com/byopc/Thanks, I've got the latest bios upgrade from IBM's website, but there's no info came with it about Hard Drive capacity support.save the 10 gig as the slave drive..........boot with the 40 gig..DONT buy a crapster  hard drive.......seagate........you can have out the case if you have not got SPACE.........but you need more ram.........at least 1024mb this is depending whats it use for.......for an ideal net sever......128mb /ram 10/gig of h/d.......maybe its time to use it as a server/games machine........time to move upwards.......if you can afford it?that is..IDE/ATA hard drives are backward compatible.  An ATA-133 installed into an ATA-66 system will operated at ATA-66 SPEED.  If you choose a drive greater than 127GB, you may have PROBLEMS.  Whatever brand you choose, make certain it is at least a 7200 rpm drive.  In my experience, 7200 rpm vs 5400 rpm has a very noticeable difference.
