Solve : IBM Thinkpad control buttons?

I am USING IBM Thinkpad T43. I don't see on screen indicators when I use sound control buttons and Function+F controls. I mean I have not those green volume bars on my screen. They were but now gone.

No. All the change I remember is that cleaning stuff.
