Solve : IDE or SATA?

I have heard that newer computers are coming with SATA drives or something like that.. What's the difference between that and IDE? IF SATA is better are there are PCI SATA cards that I can use on my computer? or am I gonna have to go out and buy a NEW motherboard? in case of an upgrade.SATA has a far higher memory BANDWIDTH then IDE, and SATA cables are PHYSICALLY smaller then IDE cables.
