Solve : importing cd's directly to my hard drive with itunes?

I have a dell latitude d610 laptop and it only has a 70 gig memory I have an 80 gig ipod and i don't WANT to fill up my laptop with my itunes so i bought a SEAGATE 500 gig EXTERNAL HARD drive hoping to eliminate this problem but whene ever i import a cd to itunes it puts it on my external hard drive and my lapyop. i only want it stored on the external . can some one help me?you can't just import/copy the CD to your external hard drive(no itunes)
