Solve : Impossible Soundcard?

Answer»

I recently bought and modified (slightly) a new PC.  The onboard sound card just wasn't plain working no matter what I did.  I disabled it in the BIOS, uninstalled it, etc. and got a (used) new card, a Creative Sound Blaster AudioPCI.

I've finally gotten it working, but now everytime I try to play a sound or a song, ANYthing, it shows that it's playing and no sound comes out.  My speakers are plugged into the right jack, they're turned on, everything is hooked up properly, nothing's muted.

Whenever I try to play something in Windows Media Player, for example, the visualization ripples once every couple SECONDS (even on loud PIECES), but that's it.  No sound.  Even though it shows it's playing. Quote

I do not understand your statement.

You finally got it working, but no sound comes out?
Why do you say it's finally working?
What VERSION of Windows?
Does sound show properly in Device Manager?
Before, it just plain couldn't start.  The card, not the computer, I kept getting "This device cannot start. (Code 10)."  I finally got it to start, but no sound comes out.

Windows XP.

Yes.it could be in your windows sound settings.

Look at the System try near the clock and CLICK double cick on the one that looks liek a speaker...

then make sure all that stuff is up..

R0SSR0SS, if you read my first post, you would know that I already checked that.  That's the FIRST thing I checked. Quote

Does sound show properly in Device Manager?
I already answered yes to that.Does it NOW show properly in the Device Manager.
Drivers installed?

(We are only trying to help you   )You did not mention whether or not you installed drivers for your sound card!

Did you install the correct drivers?

Did you install ANY drivers?
I've gone on the official site and gotten drivers, I've gotten them off the CD that came with it, I've searched for and used multiple fixes, I've updated the drivers through XP...

I've done pretty much any no-brainer solutions to this problem.

[EDIT] Before I even thought to go to forums for help.  You guys haven't told me anything I didn't already know.could she sound card be broken? or damaged..

it should work Nothing appears to be physically wrong with it, or its placement.  Everything's where it should be, and nothing snapped off.

Also, I have confirmation that it was working in a different machine less than a week ago. Quote
Does it NOW show properly in the Device Manager.
Yes.  It shows up properly, SAYS it's working, but it isn't.  No sound comes out anywhere.  I even tried headphones, so I know it's not my speakers.
