Solve : Improving CPU speed? |
|
Answer» Hey all, I have a quick question about CPU speeds. Hey all, I have a quick question about CPU speeds. Quote I've read a bit about overclocking, but i'm hesitant to do that because i'm using an All-In-One PC, so I imagine the overheating problem will be similar, if not worse, to a laptop. I have a game i'd really like to improve the quality of when running on my PC. The system requirements for this game suggest it needs a 2.6ghz processor, whereas mine is 1.5 (It's an AMD Athlon(tm) X2 Dual Core Processor 3250e). The game runs without a problem, it's just incredibly (for want of a better word) bitty and the frame rate seems really poor.Yes, most all in one machines have terrible cooling solutions normally. I would strongly recommend against doing any OC at all. Quote I've taken pretty much every step I could think of, altering the visuals to favour performance over looks etc, but it's still a very fidgety game play situation. If I was to look at upgrading to a better processor, how easy would that be for an All-In-One PC?Most all in one pc's are fairly limited in the upgrades that can be done because like a laptop the hardware is usually pretty specific. Quote I'm using a HP Pavilion MS215uk model, with Windows 7 and a 64bit OS. Is there anything I can do without upgrading the hardware? If not, how would I go about upgrading the hardware itself? Thanks very much.I would recommend using a different machine for the really high end games. I don't know what your budget is to WORK with, or what other expectations you may have for a new system. If this is EVEN a possibility then you can post a bit more information for us.I was afraid that it might be pretty difficult, but it's not the end of the world. At the moment i'm a bit financially out of it in terms of being able to buy a higher spec computer, but that's ok too. I do have a side question though, in my RAM info, it says I have 2gb available, but that only 1.75gb is useable? In addition to that, when I check msinfo32 via the 'Run' service, it says I only have 709mb available physical memory ... is there anyway of boosting these to their maximum? EDIT: I've just researched some of this so, ACTUALLY, just looks like a case of reducing background programmes is needed. And actually, just to ask, what would be the most affordable way of buying some high end spec gadgets? It'd be cool to have a laptop or PC on which I can play better quality video games. Would it even be possible to buy a base unit and attach it to my all-in-one and use the all-in-one as a monitor?Windows 7 deals with memory allocation far differently than previous versions of Windows. There is also the probability that your all in one unit uses some of the RAM for video use. You can check what is running on the computer in the way of software that has been installed and may be running in the background using the Task Manager, and change the way the software starts using Quick Start Up. This can let you designate which software will start when you start up your computer. |
