Solve : Incorrect CPU speed?

Answer»

Hi. I have just had installed an AMD Athlon XP 3200+ onto an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe motherboard by a reputable computer shop. In System PROPERTIES the CPU is showing as 1.09 Ghz. instead of 2.2 Ghz. Can any of you gurus help me with this. I bought these two items om Ebay. Thanks.

JohnThis can be caused by CPU stepping speeds to conserve power.
It should still perform fine.
Go to Control Panel --> Power Options, and set the power scheme to always on, this should force the CPU to run at full speed.
If the CPU is still shown as an incorrect speed, contact the seller immediately.
Oh, and CHECK the motherboard manual, there may be jumper SETTINGS you need to configure or settings in the BIOS, that could also affect the speed.
I think it's most likely to be stepping though.
Hope this helps.Hi Calum. Thanks for the prompt reply. I`ll LET you know how I get on.

JohnHi Calum. Setting the power scheme didn`t work, so did as you suggested and contacted the seller. He told me to alter the CPU FSB in the bios to 400 and now its showing 2.19 Ghz.

Thanks again. JohnThat's what I thought it'd be if it wasn't stepping, a setting in the BIOS or a jumper.
The seller would've just CONSULTED the manual about that.
Glad you got it sorted and thanks for posting back.
