Solve : Insane Sound?

Answer»

The sound on my computer has gone crazy. One minute it was fine, the next minute, everything went really echoey and distorted.

It sounds almost like I'm in a huge music hall and everything is echoing off the roof and walls, but at the same time someone is attempting to play an electric guitar with a frazzled amp and way too MUCH overdrive.

It's like this for every single sound my computer MAKES, and it's now impossible to listen to a song properly or speak to someone online.

Does anybody know what might have caused this or how it could be fixed?forgot to say, my card is an intel graphics media accelerator 900, and I'm using windows xp, pentium 4.

and I wasn't doing ANYTHING out of the ordinary when ir happened, i just played a song on windows media player and noticed it sounded... weird.Well if it is INTERNAL sound card try muting the 3D if not then go to Start-> Control Panel-> Sound and Audio devices and make sure the correct one is selected on all of them. Also make sure that you hit advance and have the quality on best.muting the 3D?Some sound card have 3d functions but some speakers don't have 3D so it is added to your volume control. See if it is disable. Is your computer clean?

what speakers have you got

I don't think it's to do with the speakers at all, I've tried using headphones and two different sets of speakers and it doesn't make any difference.

I tested for sound and it didnt help - i could hear the sounds, but they were distorted, just like everything else.
