Solve : Installed new video card?

Answer»

My computer has a built in video card on the motherboard. When i boot the computer the monitor remains black. All pins and plugs look fine.

I am having trouble with the newly installed video card. I still can not get a display on my monitor. I have tried the monitor on another computer and it works just fine. I RECENTLY purchased a Radeon 256 video card and have properly instaled the card onto the mother board. When I boot the computer nothing shows up on the monitor.  How do I tell the computer to use the new video card while I boot my computer?

Did you happen to install the drivers before putting the graphics card in?

If not, that's probably why your computer doesn't recognize it.You have to disable your on-board video in Control Panel, first. Turn your computer off, put your new video card in. Turn your computer on.
Windows should recognize new hardware. Have your drivers CD ready. Quote from: hanku on November 10, 2007, 11:46:07 AM

I was unable to install the new drivers for the video card or disable the old drivers. My video card on the motherboard is bad.

What do I do now? What do you have listed in Device Manager, under Display Adapters? Any yellow exclamation/question mark there?when it comes to video cards, you don't NECESSARILY have to have your drivers downloaded first like other hardware setups.  just make sure you follow broni's advice in this thread.  I'm wondering why other causes of the problem have not been considered.  Don't the facts here indicate possible problems other than video, such as a power supply, hard drive, or motherboard failure?

digitalozz, do you see evidence, in your LED lights' FLICKERING, that your hard drive is running and your system is booting?  Can you open your case, then start your computer and verify that all fans are running?Maybe if we had the exact video card involved, and the computer or motherboard make and model, and the power supply make, wattage and age, we couldn't have to guess.

Were the old drivers REMOVED prior to installing the new card? Does the onboard video work if the new video card is removed?
