Answer» Quote from: homer on January 14, 2008, 11:06:57 PM QuoteLooks like suspended, not strapped down. We could do it with big ol' rubber bands, and make it shock proof! >g< Should we apply for a PATENT now? Quote they also make ADAPTER screws that are used to place harddrives in 5.25" bays. Another thing I had never heard of / considered. Interesting. Follow up: 1/15/08 late evening - ordered part from PC Connection via web. SEE above for link. Received email order confirmation within minutes. The part was listed as in stock, ships within 24 hours. Late on 1/16/08, using their order tracking online, its status was changed to 'Shipped'. 1/17/08 Recieved shipping confirmation email, including UPS tracking link. They advertised that they do not bill credit card until item ships. And that is what they did. They did not bill my credit card until after it shipped. Advertised free shipping. I used that. 1/21/08 noon-ish UPS truck rolled up with my part. Summary: PC Connection did exactly everything just like they said they would. Anymore, that is something to be happy about. And! 'lo and behold.... after all this.... the ^&*%$#@ drive I wanted to install seemed to have problems! I managed to scrounge another one though. Quote And! Thanx !Quote from: patio on January 22, 2008, 07:33:26 PM So is the rest of the story... You're welcome. But since, as of right now, the sum total of my experience with them is one purchase, you might want to downgrade them from your "preferred list" to "definitely worth a shot for one purchase to see if his was their norm or a fluke." Do we have a thread anywhere around here, where posters can report their experiences - good and bad - with online vendors? That would be good info to SHARE. That's what I was thinking when I came back here and posted about PCConnection. Patio: Stumbled over this: http://www.pcconnection.com/IPA/Shop/Product/Detail.htm?sku=225313 I think it is you that I've seen post a pic of that type of item here in the forums, as part of a reply when recommending a solution to some posters. I have no idea if $4.48 is a good price or not. Just thought I'd point it out.Patio: I was just on their site, looking for plain old IDE hard drive cables. Linky I see Belkin and Cable Unlimited, both for under 2 bucks per cable. I guess they are ok.... Just want a couple spares to have. Can't find mine, naturally. I just replaced one because I think it was intermittently flaking out. Very frustrating.... Had to cannabilize one from an old machine. But - I see their status is 'On order', which means you don't really know when they'll COME in and be shipped. I don't feel like fooling with that. Do you have an online vendor that you like? How about free shipping? I really don't want to deal with that doofus in the local store. Not for while, anyway. Thanks |
