Solve : Installing a new hard drive.?

Answer»

I bought an 80Gig hard drive a while back an tried installing it with only partial success.  When I first installed it the computer didn't read it, as if it wasn't there so I tried to do some research on how to install the thing and the only thing that I came up with was to clone my PREVIOUS hard drive and then install it.  This worked really well except that my previous hard drive was only 30Gig and so now the NEW hard drive will only read 30Gigs.  Could someone TELL me the proper way to install a new hard drive or link me an article I would really appreciate it.  I am trying to go with a master/slave set up with the 30Gig drive as the master.  Thanks!Welcome to the CH forums.

Sounds like you've got the Master/Slave jumpers set and the disk ready to go.  The rest depends on which operating system you are using and whether you have the full install cd for the OS.

Please advise which OS you are using.

New drives are not formatted...this is why it wasn't recognised.
When you "clone" a new HDD if you miss one or two steps in the process it will only USE what it needs sizewise to create a clone of the source drive...sounds like this is what happened.
I suggest starting over.
Backup any data you need from the new drive.
Then DLoad the diagnostics from the HDD manuf. site and use them to prepare the drive for use...
