Solve : Installing PC Memory?

Answer»

I have HP Pavilion 6730 computer with standard memory of 64MB and Hard drive of 10GB.  I installed Windows XP and My mouse was freezing. XP recommends 128MB.

I installed 128MB SDRAM in second slot to increase memory to 192 MB but system is detecting 64MB memory only.  I installed XP again but the new memory is not there.

Do I have to remove 64MB memory and install new card KByte 128MB SDRAM (PC100/133  168Pin ) to increse memory to 128MB?  System can have maximum memory of 256MB.hsawhney.....I would try removing the 64mb stick and REPLACE it with the 128mb stick and see if 128 mg stick is seen .........if it is then install the 64mb stick in the second slot.

The bigger module usually goes in the 1st slot.

You would be better off putting 2 x 128 MB as it will still be on the low side for XP.I am not convince that the new memory is compatible. Some of those machines are very pickey. Did you just get it off the rack or check a web site like Crucial to guarantee a match? How much RAM is seen by the BIOS?
