My computer, LAPTOP gateway with 4 gb is running slow. The computer guy advised me that only 1/2 of my processor is running and he could turn the rest on. Obviously for a fee. But I've never heard of only 1/2 a processor running. Any suggestionsYeah, get a different "computer guy" - this one is ripping you off.

What is the SPECIFIC problem you are having?computer is running very slow. I've removed SEVERAL startup programs, defraged and yelled at it. Last action did not help. Also it likes to freeze up at various times. Define "running slow" and provide more details about the freezing. Be as clear and complete as possibleabout three MIN to boot up then about two minutes before you can open any program. Freezing up OCCURS at about any point. Sometimes while opening a MS word doc or excel or even after getting on line. Also sometimes it will not shut down without depressing the power button for 20-30 sec. We can run the basic scans, but if you have the time I'd prefer you go to the malware forum on this site and follow the INSTRUCTIONS at the top of that page and post all logs in that forum.
