Solve : Intel Processor for Server and Workstations?

Answer» HELLO, I WANT to know, what is a good processor for a server running Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 and a processor for workstation running Windows 7? Finally, a MAC running Snow LEOPARD? thank you! I want intel!Almost anything.
Servers were running years ago on CPUs that most users would now throw away.
What performance level do you want?
Do y0ou have a giga bit connection?
Is this a business venture?
Is cost an issue?

Budget ? ?
Very important question.

Lease-to-Own Server -- $49/month:
Intel Xeon E3-1230
8 GB RAM
1,000 GB HD
So that would mean anntel Xeon E3-1230 is a good basic server CPU.
But that might not be a good choice. That is why I added more questions. The Xeon is the best choice for certain applications. The OP needs to be more specific about objective.Hmmm, concerning cost, no major problem! I want a good intel processor so that it can run the Windows Server 2008 R2 without problem. And the workstations connected with it as well. On the workstations, I can put Intel i7 becaue some compouters will have VmWare.

Only the server I'm a bit hesited, whether to buy Xeon, or i7! The server will have 8GB RAM, internet speed 4MB!OK. The Xeon is a dead end. Go with the current Intel family of high-end CPUs  I only mentioned the Xeon because it is a cost-effective solution at the present time. But it is old technology.

Here is what Intel is doing now. and coming soon.

Any advances in software nwill target the newer CPUs. So if you ever wamt tp upgrade yhour software, you want the new generation of Intel processors.
Yes, some i7 CPUs are part of the 'Xeon' family, but I meant the older Xeon.

Intel i7 is what you want. Good capital investment.

(But you can buy a USED old  XEON  dual-core server for $120, keep if for a year and throw it away.)

so I can put Intel i7 then? If yes, then its good! Thank you! Now, have to search a good MOTHERBOARD...
