Solve : is it my video card or motherboard?

Answer»

i kno u probably WANT details of my computer n all first, but i want to know if u saw the following signs which hardware part would u assume is messed up.

- first my monitor was ACTING up by means of the computer turning on and the monitor would just go into standby mode as if the computer had never turned on.- n the monitor made scary sounds as if the tube was blown

- i bought a new monitor
- the monitor is hooked but it says no video signal... and now when i turn the COMP. on the cd drives don't work .. they don't open..

the cd drives thing lead me to beleive the motherboard was BROKE. but the monitor problem first made me think the video card is messed up. This could be a failed power supply. Have experienced any signs of a gradually worsening problem prior to this, such as freeze-ups or sporadic failure to start when you turned the power on?Quote from: ap2487 on APRIL 11, 2007, 02:44:08 PM

Power supply should ALWAYS be your first suspect.
