Answer» Quote from: brett74 on October 18, 2008, 06:46:41 AM I think you don't need a credit card you can use a DEBIT card too. I have almost the same computer and it's pretty easy to upgrade. I have the sr1403 and I've upgraded the power supply with no problem. Also if you plan on doing any gaming I would definately upgrade both the power supply and graphics card. Okay so its not that difficult. okay so now I'm planning on maybe a 8600 because 8400 is no good for gaming. And how do I buy a power supply. It's like something in a box right? and is it easy to install? the 8600 does not require a that large amount of power, because it does not draw that MUCH power, compared to the new 9 or GTX series. I use a 500 w power supply and it works perfectly well, so your power supply does not need to be specially upgraded for the new cardQuote I use a 500 w power supply and it works perfectly well, so your power supply does not need to be specially upgraded for the new card He has a 250W PSU...i'm sure he'll need more than that to run the 8600 series card.Well a card like the 9400 only needs 300 watts and so an 8400 needs much less. And maybe an 8600 will be able to be supported by 250 watts. Also one thing, why can't you just GET extra cords for a video card rather than having to buy a WHOLE new power supply unit. Computers will be easier to deal with. And this is my motherboard I think ASUS A8M2N-LAAlright screw it I'm going for the 8400gs.1. Do I need a better power supply unit? 2. Do I have to uninstall any current drivers before installing the new video card or do I have to disable something? And if I do how? 3. Is an 8400gs a good gaming card? 4. Will my computer automatically detect the 8400 if my 6150 is an onboard graphics chip and unremovable. 5. How much does ram cost these days? Can I buy some from best buy? 6. Can my PC even get a new video card? (noobish question but this guy once said that I can't upgrade if I got an onboard video card already, I thought he was an idiot but I just wanna be sure). 7. Will the video card FIT? I've seen cards like the 9800gt and they are huge. If you want better gaming performance I don't think you will see much difference between your onboard 6150le and an 8400gs if that's all you change. Your system has the Asus A8M2N MoBo and its a good platform for upgrades. To see any real improvement, save your money until you can add at least an 8600GT and an additional 1GB of RAM (you have PC2-4200 240 pin DDR2 SDRAM), and a 380 WATT PSU (look for one that has at least 2 18a rails. Be sure to get the 8600 GT with 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 as it's a steal right now at Newegg and is about the same price you'll pay for an 8400GS at Best Buy. (You'd really be better off ordering from Newegg over the phone and sending a money order if that's the only way you can pay). This MoBo has a PCI-e X16 slot that will work with the 8600gt. When you install this card you will have to disable the on-board video in BIOS. Not sure, but it might automaticaly disable with the PCI-e enabled. If at that point you still want more, you'll find AMD 64 5000+ and 6000+ CPU's at a bargin right now. Good luck.. |
