Solve : Is my CD-RW drive broken??

Answer»

Quite a while ago I wrote some CDs which were 1x-4X discs, but I'm sure the CD-R drive on the computer is 10x-24x (or something along those lines). Since writing these 1x-4x CDs Nero and other CD writing programs seem to think the maximum speed the drive can WRITE at is 4x. Anyone know how to switch it back to the old settings? Because at the moment it can't write anything!

Anyone have any ideas? What about uninstalling and then reinstalling the program? Does the drive work OK otherwise?Yes I could do that - but is there a way of clicking it back to the speed it should be in?When it reinstalls it may set itself up correctly. Sometimes the simplest solutions work.

If not, let us know anad we'll go from there......Have you set nero to burn a DVD instead of a cdrom. Its just DVDs burn at 4x. did you buy cd disks that write at higher speeds. Can anyone recommend me a writing/burning PROGRAMME?
Are you USING NERO? If so did you disable the "automatically scan for maximum speed"? It will write very slowly since before the write it keeps things into memory. Are you using CD-RW. Did you download there latest version online?Mei....

First of all when you talk about 1X or 4X you are talking about a DVD not a cd ....there is a big differance.
Typically a blank cd DISK will handle a write speed of from 1X to 48X ........depending on your cd rom ....A DVD on the other hand is differant animal .
